 A young boy narrates the story about how, on the first day of school, he fell in love with Sylvia. Sylvia is a bird lover. She observes them, cares for them, and even wears bird barrettes in her hair. Her voice sounds like a birdsong to the boy. To get her attention, he creates a bird costume, which he wears to school, even though climbing trees and playing soccer are difficult for him in the costume. When he and Sylvia finally meet face to face, she puts her arms around him and the boy feels like he is flying. Black line drawings tenderly illustrate this love story. mjw |

Babak the dung beetle sets out on a laborious journey to find the mother of the mysterious egg he discovered. He asks birds, frogs, and even snakes but cannot seem to find the right mother. Finally, he finds another egg just like his! He looks for the mother and discovers that she is hitting her eggs across a field with a stick. Babak does not approve of this mothering so he takes matters into his own hands to save his egg. The bright illustrations created through lino-cutting will keep the reader engaged in the mystery of the lost egg. amo
